The PS5 has had a good January. Sales figures for January in Europe have been released, and it’s clear that Sony’s console dominates the market. There is bad news for Microsoft, where sales of the Xbox X and S series have dropped significantly, lagging far behind Sony’s console.
PS5 is the best-selling console in Europe
While sales of most consoles declined in January, they jumped for Sony’s console. The supply problems of the past have disappeared.
Strong sales
Sales of the PS5 increased by 202% in January compared to January of the previous year. This is a spectacular increase that allows Sony’s console to dominate this market segment in Europe. The company’s console was the top seller in European markets such as the UK and also dominated in the US in the same month.
Sales of its main competitors, on the other hand, fell sharply. Bad news for the Xbox X and S series, whose sales fell 32% in January. Other consoles like the Nintendo Switch also lost some ground, in their case by 11%.
Sony has gotten off to a good start this year. Sales of the PS5 seem to be on the rise, solidifying the company’s dominant position in the market. Microsoft is probably worried, as sales of the new Xbox have dropped significantly. We’ll see if anything changes in this market in the coming months.
