Intel has previously partnered with TSMC to use TSMC’s 6nm process to manufacture its own GPUs for a total of 180,000 wafers next year. The partnership was truly unexpected, but given Intel’s production capacity, it was perhaps the better choice. Now Intel is working with TSMC again and will use TSMC’s 3nm process.
The pace of TSMC’s 3nm process is to open up the risk market next year and reach mass production in 2022, the year after, but the first capacity wave will be mainly reserved for Apple, and only after the last three capacity waves, they will accept reservations from other manufacturers. This includes Intel, of course.
It is unclear which products TSMC will make for Intel, but analyses indicate that it will most likely be the GPU, i.e. the next generation of Intel graphics cards. So you should see that Intel units will go on sale this year or next year, and the next generation of Intel units will be seen in late 2022 or 2023.
