Sony patents a foldable screen smartphone with transparency in the display

2019 will be an interesting year for mobile technology. Leading smartphone manufacturers have filed patents to bring folding smartphones to market in the near future. Now the South Korean giant Sony wants to compete with Samsung, Apple, LG, Motorola and Huawei in the race for folding screen mobile phones. But Sony wants to offer a different approach.

Sony, Sony patents a foldable screen smartphone with transparency in the display, Optocrypto

According to a patent found by LetsGoDigital, the company filed a patent in May for a dual-screen smartphone (front and back) that can be configured to operate in different modes, including a transparent mode. In particular, the phone can be configured for transparent, semitransparent and non-transparent modes.

Sony’s patent also reveals a roll-up screen mode, a concept we have seen in previous patents. At the moment it is only a patent and there is no sign that Sony will launch this smartphone in 2019. However, it cannot be ruled out that the company will present this phone as an innovation lead over its competitors.

With this in mind, we have seen Sony has launched the first 48-megapixel sensor for smartphone cameras and take the lead in the photographic sector of this market, which is an indispensable and critical factor for many users to purchase one of these devices.

This sensor is called Sony IMX586 CMOS, and the company says it’s 0.8×0.8 micron. Low light conditions for image acquisition will no longer be a problem for the user as they can even integrate 4 adjacent pixels. This gives you a 12-megapixel sensor that delivers low-noise photos.
