SK Hynix is starting to sell its first SO-DIMM DDR5 memory modules with a capacity of 48 GB and also 24 GB. These first modules have been seen in Chinese territory.
SK Hynix begins selling 48 GB DDR5 SO-DIMMs
Very soon, notebook users will be able to upgrade their equipment with 48 GB and 24 GB modules from Sk Hynix, one of the best manufacturers in the sector.
As we can see in the publication of these memories, the 48 GB modules have a speed of DDR5-5600. The modules with 24 GB would also have the same speed. The prices at which they were published are 1,180 and 600 Chinese yuan for the 48 GB and 24 GB models, respectively. These prices are equivalent to $165 and $84. The standard VAT for retail products in China is 13%.
With this memory capacity, notebooks with two SO-DIMM slots are going to be able to have about 96 GB of RAM capacity at most, when previously the maximum memory was 64 GB.

How did they do it? For the 48 GB modules SK Hynix has replaced the 16 Gb DRAM chips with 24 Gb chips. Of course, ECC support is maintained.
