Intel DG2 discrete GPU schematic leaked: What is PCIe 4.0 x12?

The highly anticipated Intel DG2, the Xe-HPG high-power architecture, is rumored to be able to compete even with the RTX 3070 Ti. Igor’s Lab leaked a system architecture diagram and board design diagram of the Intel DG2 discrete graphics card today, and there are plenty of highlights.

Previously, Intel confirmed that the Xe HPG high-performance architecture will be released later this year and will support optical tracking. Rumors even promise a head-to-head race with the RTX 3070 Ti, but initially, it might only be available for gaming notebooks with Tiger Lake 11th generation core, Intel DG2 discrete graphics card system architecture and board design drawings were accidentally leaked, and there is plenty of flash.

This system architecture diagram for the mobile platform has reportedly been around for a while and can’t guarantee complete accuracy. It reveals a touch of an oddity, such as the fact that the lane between the DG2 graphics card and the Tiger Lake processor is actually PCIe 4.0 x12.

The system architecture diagram for this mobile platform has reportedly been around for a while and can’t guarantee the complete accuracy, but it does reveal a few anomalies. For example, the lane between the DG2 graphics card and the Tiger Lake-H processor is actually PCIe 4.0 x12.

Normal graphics card lanes are x16 or halved to x8, or even x4, but I’ve never seen x12 that isn’t higher or lower, but of course, such a setup is perfectly fine in theory.

I just don’t know if it’s due to the limited number of PCIe 4.0 lanes on Intel’s mobile platform, or a pure pencil error?

Also, the AV output supports DisplayPort 2.0, HDMI 2.0 – if that’s the case, it would be the first-ever DisplayPort 2.0 GPU, but doesn’t support the equally recent HDMI 2.1, which is odd.

Here’s the board layout, the center square on the left is the DG2 GPU (BGA1379 package), the rectangle on the right is the Tiger Lake H CPU, and the six smaller rectangles above that are the RAM/graphics memory, from the layout the four on the right should be DDR4/LPDDR4X memory, and the two on the left should be GDDR6 graphics memory.

This DG2 GPU is the lowest end version with only 128 execution units, paired with 64-bit 4GB GDDR6 memory and two 2GB just right.

I’ve also seen a schematic of the DG2 GPU before, but it was a higher-end 384-cell version (BGA2660 package) with a core size of 22.3 x 8.5mm (no size specs for this one), paired with six video memories for a total 192-bit 12GB.

Intel DG2 graphics card a total of five models, low-end 128, 192 units are BGA1379 package, 64-bit 4GB memory, high-end 256, 384, 512 units are BGA2660 package, respectively, corresponding to 128/192/256 – bit memory, chip power consumption 100W, counting the memory should be about 125W, desktop cards can break up to 200W.

Intel DG2 for both notebooks and desktops, but the former is the most important, 128/192 unit version of the end of October to mid-November mass production, 256/384/512 unit version of mid-December mass production, desktop cards have until next year.

This time node, the original plan partner Tiger Lake-H series debut is not possible, only with Alder Lake 12th generation Core platform, the latter also redesigned Alder Lake-P version, CPU and chipset integration package in one chip.

Intel has already introduced DG2 to major manufacturers like Asus and MSI, but it is still only a PPT, so take your time and wait.
