Intel DG2 appears with 6GB and 8GB GDDR6 memory

A new rumor surfaced today when an Intel DG2 with 8 GB of GDDR6 memory was listed on a specification sheet for an undefined device. This could be a top of the line portable device or something for a gaming laptop.

Recently there has been some news about Tiger Lake H processors (45W laptop CPU) with up to 8 cores; this news seems to fit together. What we see here is an 8GB variant of the DG2 that could accommodate 512 UEs with a 256-bit memory interface.

This 8 GB detail of GDDR6 is interesting because it points to a 256-bit memory bus to be combined with the 512 UEs version of Intel’s DG2. Remember that a 384 EU version is also expected, but it will only carry 6 GB of GDDR6, which most likely means a 192-bit bus.

As reported by the source, the DG2 can be launched in at least three versions: 384, 512, and possibly a run version with 960 units, with each ER capable of holding eight ALUs (cores). A PCB diagram of the DG2 variant of 384 EUs was also sent to them. Here you can see 6 GDDR6 chips in the diagram, which lead to a memory density of 6 GB. This DG2 model has 6 GDDR6 memory modules, which indicates a 192-bit memory interface.

Other specifications that have appeared in the meantime indicate that a USB-C interface is available for the DG2, which could indicate a Thunderbolt 4 support design or something like VirtualLink.
