Huawei reportedly wants to stay one step ahead of the game by launching a foldable smartphone ahead of Samsung. Although Samsung Display offers its parent company a significant advantage over Huawei when it comes to state-of-the-art displays, Huawei does not seem to be put off by this. It buys flexible OLED panels from a close Chinese partner but wants to release a limited number of units, which is the same approach Samsung allegedly was looking for.
Huawei may be looking for support from BOE, a Chinese manufacturer of OLED panels that also work with Apple. Although Beijing Oriental Electronics or BOE is not a household name, the company has recently taken the necessary steps in the production and innovation of OLED displays. BOE has already demonstrated some of its prototype folders and is, therefore, an ideal partner for Huawei.
In addition to aesthetics and portability, the advantages of folding phones are few and making this type of phone business can be a bit complicated. For example, folding system mechanisms can not only build mobile phones thicker but also leave less space for installing the battery, which could be a problem as a larger screen requires more power. However, this problem can be alleviated by the use of folding batteries, which we know Samsung will develop for its next offer.
First-generation foldable devices may not be as sophisticated as traditional smartphones. Software problems can also occur because folding equipment requires an adaptive user interface that not only provides a unique experience but can also be adapted to changes in form factor. Let’s hope Huawei hits hard in the race for the first foldable smartphone launch regarding design, quality, and functionality.
