The Pimax 8K headset, which will feature spectacular hardware specifications, is not yet on the market. Nevertheless, the company is already working on modular extensions for VR glasses. For this purpose, the Chinese are now entering into a cooperation with the odour sensor manufacturer VAQSO VR.

Pimax & VAQSO VR: Smelling in Virtual Reality

The official partnership between the two companies should lead to the odour add-on under development at VAQSO VR working directly with the Pimax 8K headset for its release. Pimax will develop an appropriate adapter and integrate VAQSO’s software technology into the in-house Pimax SDK (Software Development Kit).

In addition, both devices are to be presented in combination at trade fairs and exhibitions. The VAQSO VR hardware add-on is scheduled for release in 2018 and, according to the manufacturer’s website, will also be compatible with Oculus Rift, HTC Vive and PlayStation VR. The connection to the VR-Glasses should be made either via Bluetooth or USB.

When will the Pimax 8K be released?

Before we can try out what VR looks like on the Pimax 8K and smells like with VAQSO VR support, we have to get our hands on the headset that many are eagerly awaiting. However, it is still not known exactly when this will happen.

Originally, the VR glasses should have been released by the end of 2017. At CES 2018, however, it became known that the error devil had crept in at one or the other point.

Several delays followed and Pimax promised to improve the headset until the release in the problem areas. Actually, the Pimax 8k should be delivered after the M1 beta test in June 2018 – but there is little indication that this will actually happen.
