Revealed the new MSI X399 SLI PLUS motherboard

The VideoCardz website today leaked the new MSI X399 SLI Plus motherboard, a new MSI motherboard for the AMD X399 enthusiast socket designed to offer a somewhat cheaper solution for the platform. The new motherboard eliminates the shield covering the audio zone and has a single heatsink for superior VRM power, a board that has great similarities to the MSI Carbon Pro.

MSI X399 SLI PLUS motherboard Specifications

This model still has three M.2 slots, with one of them incorporating the M.2 Shield to cool the installed SSD M.2. On the other hand, PCIe layout remains four PCIe 3.0 x16 for multi-GPU systems of four graphics cards, with two PCIe 2.0 x1 ports for other elements.

With this, the AMD X399 platform already adds nine different motherboards, while Intel has X299 in 48 models. A very different support for Threadripper than for Ryzen on socket AM4 that does not stop receiving new plates, increasing the options. A fact that is understood because the platform’s most economical processor costs just over 600 € for the eight-core AMD Threadripper 1900X, while Intel begins its price line much further down.

Specifically, the SLI Plus eliminates RAM metal reinforcements and reduces the number of reinforced PCIe x16 slots to just two – by a wide margin, the most common configuration for SLI or CrossFire crowd reduction.

It also throws an additional PCIe x16 port – the Gaming Pro Carbon has 5 ports of this type, but the SLI Plus does only with 4, adding an additional PCIe x1 to the mix. It still has the same 3x M.2 ports, although MSI M.2 Shield only makes its appearance on one of them, again, against the Gaming Pro Carbon, which uses MSI M.2 Shield on all three of them.

In summary, it seems that the MSI X399 SLI Plus motherboard eliminates the extras, making smart cuts and keeping most of the functionality. Expect this motherboard to come in at a lower price than the Gaming Pro Carbon.
