MSI has expanded its options on the AMD enthusiast TR4 socket with the new MSI X399 SLI PLUS motherboard. That is a new option for massive processors up to 16 cores AMD Threadripper. This new motherboard is focused within the MSI Workstation Pro product line, with Military Class VI electrical components designed for high durability.
X399 SLI PLUS motherboard Specifications
This new model has four PCIe 3.0 x16 ports in the configuration ready for four graphics cards. And although only two of them have been reinforced with MSI Steel Armor to add hardness. Among them, we find two PCIe 2.0 x1 slots and three M.2 ports ( two 2280 and one 22110). Where one of them has an M.2 Shield heatsink. The storage is completed with 8 SATA 3 ports that can be found on the right side of the motherboard itself.
As usual, in most X399 models, we have eight DDR4 DIMM slots to take advantage of the quad-channel memory that AMD Threadripper processors can handle. The motherboard is powered by two 8-pin EPS connectors. And there is usual ATX 24-Pin. Also, while the CPU’s VRM features an 8-phase design with Titanium chokes accompanied by a usual high-volume heatsink with a large number of fins.
Another notable aspect is a large number of USB available. And since the motherboard counts on its rear I / O with two USB 2.0, 8 USB 3.1 Gen 1. And two USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type A and Type C. Also, while in the front we will have two USB 3.1 Gen 1 headers, a USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type C header and two USB 2.0 headers.
This motherboard is available right now and is intended to offer a cost-effective option for AMD Ryzen Threadripper.
