NVIDIA will present the GameWorks Ray Tracing technology

Get ready for GameWorks Ray Tracing technology. NVIDIA and Microsoft have teamed up to create the GameWorks Ray Tracing and RTX Tech technologies, which will enable the next generation of NVIDIA graphics cards to manage Ray Tracing lighting effects in real time.

Ray Tracing technology allows calculating in real time the effects of lighting and how it affects the stage, such as reflective surfaces of light, shadows, and environmental occlusion. Until now, this is only possible through pre-recorded scenes (cinematics).

But NVIDIA and Microsoft are planning to add this technology to GameWorks Ray Tracing. So they can be calculated in real time. Naturally, this requires a lot of computing power and only the next NVIDIA graphics cards based on Volta will be able to run them under the Microsoft DirectX API.

This RTX technology will be “highly optimized” in upcoming NVIDIA Volta GPUs. And the green company has partnered with Microsoft to add it to the DirectX API. That is already being used by leading publishers and developers, such as Electronic Arts, 4A Games. Also, that will launch Metro Exodus this year. And that includes Remedy Games (which is already working on Project 7, scheduled for 2019).

Also, the API comes with the most popular game engines. Such as Unic Engine 4 from Epic to Unity 5 and DICE’s Frostbite engine. That is now used in almost all games created by Electronic Arts.

On Monday we will know many more details about this when your official announcement is made.
