Many major game companies will not participate in this year’s Gamescom 2022

Sony Interactive Entertainment will not be attending the world’s largest gaming trade show Gamescom 2022 this year. The company confirmed to the German media outlet Games Wirstschaft that it will not be bringing PlayStation games to the show, which will be held in person after being held digitally for two years.

Sony has yet to explain the reasons behind its decision not to attend the event. Gamescom was very important for the company, as it debuted titles such as Death Stranding and collaborated with Activision and Remedy to showcase games such as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Control.

While Gamescom 2022 organizers promise that more than 250 companies will be at the show, big names in the industry have already confirmed that they won’t be there. Nintendo, Take-Two Interactive and Activision Blizzard have already announced that they will not be present at the next edition, scheduled for August this year.

Only a handful of companies have confirmed their participation in Gamescom 2022.
Companies like Bandai Namco, THQ Nordic and Koch Media have already confirmed that they will bring some of their games to the event in Cologne. Gamescom also promises online presentations for those who can’t be there.

This presentation is called Gamescom Opening Night Live and will be hosted by Geoff Keighley, who is also the host and organizer of Summer Game Fest. The event will open on August 23, and the show will run through August 28, inclusive.
