Logitech Crayon: Logitech presents an alternative to the Apple Pencil

Logitech Crayon, new writing pencil from Logitech. The Apple Pencil may be one of the most desirable pointers, but it’s also one of the most expensive. The 99 € Apple asks for it is not for every pocket.

And yet, some devices are left “naked” without an Apple Pencil. Like the iPad Pro that released it. Or the new sixth-generation education-oriented iPad 2018. In that context, asking a student (or his or her parents) to pay an extra €100 for basic functionality may be too much.

The cheap alternative to the Apple Pencil

That’s why many of us were waiting for the moment when Apple would announce the new Apple Pencil, a new and less expensive version. But that didn’t happen. Apple preferred to let others do that work, while she focuses on the premium market.

That is how the Logitech Crayon was introduced, a stylus whose main attraction is its price, at least compared to the Apple Pencil.

For $49, it’s still a product that won’t be available to everyone, but at least it’s more affordable.

The Logitech Crayon should offer very similar features to the Apple Pencil, for half the price. The design is the main change; it is noticeable in leagues that the Crayon is aimed at young users, with the bright orange tips that make it more difficult to lose.

Logitech hasn’t yet specified technical details, but if it’s compatible with the iPad and iPad Pro, it shouldn’t be very different from the Apple Pencil, at least in functionality.

Another surprise of the day is that Apple doesn’t seem to be willing to add its keyboard to the iPad, and again, Logitech comes with its solution: a keyboard sleeve and a stylus compartment.

It will cost $99, and will allow us to turn the iPad into a kind of laptop; it should at least be more comfortable to type with a real keyboard.

That Apple has allowed the presentation of these products at its event indicates that the apple company is not yet interested in appealing to users, who need these add-ons. It is good news that at least some companies are.

Updated: Logitech has confirmed that both the Crayon and the keyboard cover set will be available this June only through the school channel. You have not confirmed whether they will be available to all consumers at a later date.
