The new driver package, called Intel Modern Windows Drivers (MWD), is only compatible with Windows 10 Version 1809 and Windows Server 2019 and later versions of these two systems. The change should not affect Intel functionality as long as system administrators use the included Installer.exe. Intel reports that non-observance can lead to problems ranging from minor to catastrophic or system instability. A change from an earlier version of the driver is also not recommended according to Intel, as this can also lead to system instability.

According to the release notes, Windows Modern Driver requires an Internet connection for Windows to automatically download the Intel Graphics Control Panel from the Microsoft Store. For all changes, it is important to make a system backup before installing the modern Intel driver on machines that support the new driver type. If you need to reset the backup, you can restore it.
