Modify DNS Servers on Mac
To modify the DNS servers on an Apple computer with OS X or macOS (the procedure is the same), simply follow these steps:
- Click on the apple icon that you will see at the left end of the menu bar.
- Select the “System Preferences” option. Optionally you can also access this section of your Mac from the Launchpad or from the Dock if you have the preferences there anchored.
- In the System Preferences panel, select the “Network” option.
- Now, in the left pane, select the network interface on which you want to make DNS modifications. It can be a Wi-Fi network like the one you see selected in the next image, or an Ethernet connection, and so on.
- Then click on the “Advanced” option that you will see in the lower right.
- A new window will now open. At the top you will find several tabs, select the one that says DNS and then do any of the following as you like:
- Click on the button marked with a “+” sign if you want to add a new DNS server.
- Double-click the DNS IP address if you want to modify an existing DNS server.
- And if you just want to delete a DNS server, simply select an IP address from the DNS server and click on the button marked with a “-” symbol.
- To make sure the changes are saved and applied, do not forget to press the “OK” button that you see in the lower right part of the window.

More advanced users also have another way to modify the DNS servers on a Mac, that is through the “Terminal” and commands and subcommands, however, it is a more technical formula to do so through the ” System Preferences,” besides that it is necessary to know such commands.
