Both Nvidia and AMD are planning to launch ARM architecture CPUs in 2025. According to reports from Reuters, both companies intend to compete with Apple’s chips.
ARM: Nvidia and AMD to Launch CPUs to Compete with Apple
We know that Apple designs its own ARM processors, which it uses on Mac computers and laptops. These processors have proven to be very effective in terms of performance and efficiency, and both AMD and Nvidia believe they can replicate this architecture and make improvements.
Nvidia has quietly begun designing central processing units (CPUs) that would run Microsoft’s Windows operating system and incorporate technology from Arm Holdings, as two individuals familiar with the matter have informed Reuters.
Advanced Micro Devices also plans to produce PC chips using ARM’s technology, according to two individuals familiar with the matter.
AMD is planning to introduce ARM-based CPUs into its portfolio that will join the Ryzen family. However, it is not known how they will do it and in what capacity, whether they will be for desktop PCs, notebooks, or both. Regardless, these new CPUs will be capable of running Windows operating systems.
Nvidia already has some experience with this architecture, as the Grace CPU uses ARM CPU cores (Neoverse N2), which have demonstrated excellent performance in AI/HPC tasks.
The idea for both companies is to bring these chips to the market in 2025. Another player that also intends to enter the PC market with ARM CPUs is Qualcomm with its new Snapdragon X Elite, which we mentioned earlier.
