AMD A520, low-end motherboard could be introduced on August 18

AMD plans to introduce the A520 chipset motherboards next week, allegedly on August 18 this year. The AMD A520 line is aimed at AMD Ryzen’s entry-level desktop PC manufacturers who want to maximize the value of their new design.

The primary audience for the AMD A520 platform is the base of affordable and valuable consumers who want the best configuration at low cost based on Ryzen processors. The AMD X570 and B550 platforms are out of reach for a wider audience because they will pay extra for the PCIe 4.0 advantage. Of course, there is the B450 motherboard market, but due to the scarcity of these motherboards, there is rarely a good deal as production has shifted to the new 500 series chips.

To this end, the A520 motherboards target the low-end market and offer a balance of features and performance in the $100-150 price range. The official launch will take place this Tuesday, August 18.

The A520 line will not have the PCIe 4.0 connectivity features of the X570 and B550 boards or the higher I/O, but full support for AM4 CPUs, including third-generation Ryzen, is expected, and from what we have heard, the A520 boards will also support the next generation of Ryzen CPUs and APUs.

The ASRock models had been filtered before, but now an ASUS model has appeared, the PRIME A520M-K. This model is already listed in Newegg for $75.99.

The motherboard seems to be quite standardized and balances the AM4 socket with a 6-phase current design and a single 8-pin connector for starting. There are no heatsinks in the VRM, while the A520 PCH is protected by a small piece of heat-shrinkable aluminum. The motherboard has two DDR4 slots that support speeds of up to 4600 MHz and a capacity of 64 GB. For comparison, on the same Newegg, the A320M-K motherboard costs US$64.35.
