GIGABYTE AMD B550 and Intel Z490 motherboards revealed at EEC

According to recent information, GIGABYTE has listed its upcoming motherboards for the upcoming AMD and Intel platforms. Starting with the emerging B550 midrange chipset, which is designed to bring PCIe 4.0 connectivity options to the most affordable motherboards.

AMD B550 and Intel Z490 Gigabyte are listed in the EEC

AMD B550, GIGABYTE AMD B550 and Intel Z490 motherboards revealed at EEC,

Previously, only high-end chipset versions such as the X570 had support for PCIe 4.0, while the mid-range option did not. GIGABYTE has prepared a total of six B550 AORUS models, along with a GAMING series that is said to be one level below the AORUS models. The B550 chipset will cover all sizes of motherboards, including ATX, Micro-ATX, and Mini-ITX.

On the EEC list, GIGABYTE is also preparing the next Intel Z490 motherboards for the Comet Lake S CPUs. We see a total of 15 motherboards on the list. The W480 chipset, which is supposed to drive the HEDT market, is also listed here. This chipset will be part of a new series of motherboards called the “VISION” series. While we don’t know what this new series will bring, we do know that both the W480 workstation-enabled chipset and the regular Z490 chipset will be part of it.

AMD has been very quiet about the B550 chipset. There was only one B550A chipset designed specifically for OEMs, but unlike the B550 non-A, this chipset only supported the PCI Express 3.0 standard.

The B550 is expected to be the first AMD midrange motherboard chipset with PCIe 4.0 support.
