Xiaomi will present a terminal with 48 Mpx camera in January

This year Xiaomi opened an internal department for the development of cameras in order to offer high quality in its terminals in the field of photography and video. Now is the time to present concrete solutions, such as a terminal that seems to arrive in January with no less than 48 Mpx camera.

For reference, the Nokia 808 PureView 41 Mpx and the Mate 20 Pro had a 40 Mpx sensor (Bayer Quad). Put on the search for the manufacturer for this sensor, there are two options: The Sony IMX568 has 48 Mpx and was announced in July. It has a size of 1/2”’ with a pixel size of 0.8 microns. The other option is the 48 Mpx Samsung Bright GM1, which was introduced in October with a pixel size of 0.8 microns.

This type of sensor uses the combined pixel binning technique to improve the image quality, although it is also possible to use a high-quality digital zoom with this number of pixels. All in all, Huawei uses a 3X optical zoom to improve the final quality. It will only be a matter of time before we know whether Xiaomi will retain the software part or decide to integrate optical elements. After all, computer photography has already shown that it can work wonders.
