Xiaomi Redmi would break photography barrier by integrating 108-megapixel camera

Xiaomi recently announced that it will soon cross the 100MP threshold for smartphones, featuring a new 108MP sensor made by Samsung scheduled for release in a future Xiaomi phone. It is the highest resolution of any smartphone camera sensor and can produce photos with a resolution of 12032 x 9024.

With the 2x digital zoom, the sensor would take 27MP photos. The size of this sensor is the largest on the market, and this means that its “ultra-high light input is used to capture stunning images in low-light environments.

The first smartphone with a 108-megapixel camera will arrive “soon” according to a teaser

This announcement follows Xiaomi’s unveiling of its future 64MP camera flagship, which will be launched in the fourth quarter of this year. This camera will be used in a Redmi, Xiaomi’s alternative brand. The Samsung GW1 64MP sensor uses Tetracell pixel binding technology, which makes it possible to take “bright” 16MP photos in low light conditions.

The 64MP sensor is also equipped with ISOCELL Plus technology, which reduces noise by “minimizing optical loss and light reflection”. It also includes a technology called Double Conversion Gain (DCG), which optimizes performance and reduces high brightness noise by allowing the use of low ISO.
