WhatsApp backups do not require any space on the Google drive

Good news for users who use Google Drive to back up WhatsApp chats because their content no longer affects retention.

That was announced to some users by Google and is also reflected in the update of the WhatsApp FAQ page. As already mentioned, backups of chats (messages, audio videos, photos, etc.) are no longer cut down to the disk space of the drive. This update, which will go live on November 12, will benefit Android users.

But there are a few details to consider. For example, WhatsApp backups that were not updated last year will be deleted from Google Drive. Users who want to keep their data must update the backup they created before the above date.

The Google email differs slightly in the data and mentions that you will need to perform a manual backup before October 30, 2018, if you want to renew existing backups. In any case, it is too late if you wait until the last minute or wait for a notification from WhatsApp or Google, as the removal of chats is automatic and irreversible.
