Videolan made a controversial decision regarding the availability of the VLC application for Android for the newer smartphone brand Huawei. They’re blacklisted, which means their owners can’t download applications from Play Store. The creators of VLC claim that Huawei is guilty of spoiling the operation of one of the basic functions of the player.
Videolan announced that users of newer Huawei smartphones can no longer download VLC apps for Android from the Play Store. These devices have been blacklisted, which means that installation is not allowed. What is the reason for this decision?
Videolan argues that Huawei applies an excessively strict compression of the background processes. Among other things, this is intended to improve the operation of the EMUI system, but it also stops third-party applications if they are not running on the screen. This means that VLC for Android loses one of the important functions. It is possible to run multimedia in the background.
VLC for Android is a very popular application. Videolan is also aware of the high popularity of Huawei smartphones. However, the decision is not to be changed if the Chinese do not change their own software. In reality, however, EMUI phone settings have an option that allows you to run third-party applications in the background.
We have asked the representatives of Huawei to comment on this issue. As soon as we receive an answer, we will update this article.
