VR games on Steam without going through Windows
Of course, Valve’s potential return is limited in the short term, but things will change with the next generation of standalone virtual reality headsets based on Linux or Steam OS. In the short term, this could mean lower costs for those who want to enjoy games like Doom, Beat Saber or Google Earth. In fact, you no longer need to purchase a Windows 10 license on your handheld PC specifically designed for the VR. An advantage in the “personal” market that could have the same consequences in the professional market. Arcade halls were also bypassed and considerable savings were achieved.
The official presentation explains: “Windows games without Linux versions currently available can now be installed and run directly from the Linux Steam client, with native support for Steamworks and OpenVR. “We’ll let you test how well it works. It’s still new, so it might have some bugs. Steam VR continues its mutation and could pave the way to new games.
