After the release of Ubuntu 18.04 LTS, the people of Canonical are already working with what will be the next version of their operating system, Ubuntu 18.10, which is scheduled for release in October 2018.
Canonical is working to provide better battery life, which is one of the weaknesses of Linux distributions compared to Windows, at least in most cases. Canonical works to place hard disk drivers, USB drivers, and other hardware in a low power state when they are not needed. This will save a significant amount of wattage to extend the battery life.
Ubuntu 18.10 will also offer faster first-time startup for Snap applications, support for instant Chromium web browser installation, DLNA media sharing, integration with the KDE Connect application to connect an Ubuntu PC to an Android phone, and a number of software updates, among many other things.
Ubuntu 18.10 will also feature a new visual theme, something that users have been asking for many years because of the Spartan aspect of the distribution, although it is something that can be changed manually in a very simple way, so it has not been a priority for Canonical. The new theme will be called Commune theme, which is developed by the community as its name suggests.
The daily compilations prior to the release of Ubuntu 18.10 Cosmic Cuttlefish are now available, they are very immature versions, so they are not recommended for work teams and daily use, as they are expected to have many errors and bugs.
