It is also a major investment of around $500 million. So, it is a clear commitment to this new factory of the company in Japan.

Although this is a large investment, Sony will only have a 20% stake in this TSMC manufacturing facility in Japan. The cost of manufacturing this facility in Japan is estimated to be around $7 billion. In addition, the Japanese government is supporting the arrival of this plant in Japan, so there is a clear interest in making sure everything goes quickly and smoothly.

The plant is expected to help supply semiconductor wafers to the automotive and consumer electronics industries. The company expects the plant to be able to produce about 45,000 12-inch semiconductor wafers per month. They will be developed using 20- to 28-nanometer technology.

TSMC also expects to create about 1,500 jobs at the plant, which is scheduled to open in Japan. According to the processor manufacturer’s plans, everything should be ready in about three years and the plant should be operational as early as the end of 2024. Construction and installation of the plant is scheduled to begin early next year.
