Snapchat now allows you to send and request locations between friends

Snapchat now has a new feature that allows users to send their location in real time to a friend of theirs, or vice versa, by requesting that friend to share their location with them in real time.

To make this possible, both users must follow each other. This new feature is based on Snap Map, but in this case, a user does not share his location with all his contacts, but rather with a specific friend. It seems that the original Snap Map feature, launched in June last year, and on the web since last February, has not been sufficiently supported by users.

The new feature is more privacy-focused and has been slowly deployed over the past few weeks, both on Android and iOS, as confirmed by the social platform at TechCrunch.

The maximum period of operation of a real-time shared location is eight hours after the last time the application was opened. Users can also cancel their shared locations ahead of time if they wish.

In order to send or request a location, users should press the name of a friend for a long time or press the menu button represented by three horizontal lines in parallel in a conversation thread and choose the option they want at any given time.

This is a new feature with which Snapchat hopes to increase the differences with its direct rivals, who have been copying its characteristics over time.
