Samsung 970 PRO and 970 EVO, the third generation of its industry-leading range of solid state drives (SSDs), were introduced today. Having led the market with the first consumer-centric NVMe SSD in 2015, Samsung continues to break performance barriers with this latest generation of SSDs built for technology enthusiasts and professionals.
Samsung Announces 970 PRO and 970 EVO V-NAND SSDs
The Samsung 970 PRO and EVO are designed based on the M.2 standard and with the latest 3×4 PCIe Gen interface. The 970 Series maximizes NVMe’s bandwidth potential, offering unprecedented performance for processing large volumes of data, including 3D and 4K graphics work, high-end gaming, and data analysis.
The 970 PRO enables a sequential read rate of up to 3,500 MB/s and a sequential write rate of up to 2,700 MB/s, while the EVO offers a sequential read rate of up to 3,500 MB/s and a sequential write rate of up to 2,500 MB/s.
Sequential write speeds represent an improvement of up to 30% over the previous generation, thanks to Samsung’s latest V-NAND technology and newly designed Phoenix controller. The 970 EVO, in particular, uses Intelligent TurboWrite technology, which uses a large buffer size of up to 78 GB to enable faster write speeds than ever before.
The 970 EVO will be offered in capacities of 250 GB, 500 GB, 1 TB and 2 TB, and the 970 PRO in capacities of 512 GB and 1 TB. The 970 PRO and EVO will be available for purchase worldwide on May 7, with suggested retail prices starting at $329.99 and $119.99, respectively.
