Ryzen 5000 for notebooks will be unveiled at CES 2021, PC APUs?

AMD Ryzen 5000 for laptops is rated with the classic “H” for high performance (Cezanne) and “U” (Van Gogh) for low power consumption. However, it seems that we will soon see Zen 3 desktop APUs.

In 2021, we will actually have to learn to differentiate the various portable processors that will come with the “Ryzen 5000” naming. AMD has decided that the high-power range (Cezanne) will come with the Zen 3 + Vega tandem, while the low-power chips will come with Zen 2 + RDNA 2.

A new Ryzen 5000 APU has been filtered out that targets the desktop platform, as it is installed on an HP ProDesk 405 G8 (mini PC). We would target a Ryzen 3, as it has 4 cores and 8 threads, and a base frequency of 3.5 GHz or 4.1 GHz in Turbo.

It doesn’t get a bad grade, but the key here is the integrated graphics, RDNA 2, or Vega? It is not detailed, but this model would belong to the Cezanne family, which is equivalent to a Zen 3 architecture. Regarding the GPU, it is not so clear, and it is an important point given the RDNA 2’s performance.

Although it is stated that it is a technical sample, the frequencies will not vary much with the endpoints (if at all). With Ryzen desktop APUs over the past few years, we’ve always seen 2 series: Ryzen 3 and Ryzen 5.

The integrated graphics performance of this chip would be quite low since it has 512MB of memory. It seems that it is simply meant to output videos to the PC, without any other requirement.

So it seems that AMD is focusing this line of Ryzen 5000 APUs for the OEM market, i.e. the commercial market. This means that we will see them in pre-assembled or business-specific devices.

On the other hand, it is important to address the upcoming launch of the next AMD Ryzen 5000 laptop processors, which will be unveiled at CES 2021. AMD will be represented by Lisa Su at the virtual event, which will take place in January 2021.

That means we will have two possible lines: the “H” and “U” CPUs. We already know the “confusion” that will exist when naming these processors, because depending on the model, we will be facing a Zen 2 or Zen 3 processor. This “confusion” will be led by Lucienne (Zen 2) and Cezanne (Zen 3).

The source says that Cezanne chips will come with Zen 3 architecture, but with Vega graphics; conversely, Van Gogh chips will be based on Zen 2 and their graphics will be RDNA2. It seems that “the red devil” wanted to balance both families to make them equally attractive to consumers.
