Finally, the Pimax 8K will be delivered to the first Kickstarter members at the end of September 2018. Furthermore, the participants who have bought a Pimax 5K will also receive a newly announced model: a new Pimax 5+ with a higher quality display.
A Kickstarter campaign was launched by the Chinese manufacturer Pimax in September 2017 to fund the development of its Pimax 8K and Pimax 5K helmets. At that time, the company claimed that its two helmets would offer the most extensive field of vision in the VR helmet market.
The original plan was to launch these two models in early 2018. But several technical limitations during development forced the manufacturer to extend the deadline several times. However, the Pimax 8K went into mass production in July 2018. Finally, in September 2018, the waiting period will come to an end.
During a private event in Berlin last week CEO Robin Weng announced to MRTV that the first wave of Pimax 8K and 5K helmets will be delivered to the first Kickstarter members by the end of September 2018. In addition, there is a “90% chance” that all donors will receive their helmets before Christmas.
The Pimax 5K+ will be offered to buyers of the Pimax 5K+
At the same time, Weng also announced the introduction of a new virtual reality headset: the Pimax 5K+ with two 1440p displays and a higher pixel density for better image quality. It is not yet known how much the Pimax 5K+ will cost, but Weng promises that those who purchased the Pimax 5K will get a Pimax 5K+ instead without spending more.
As a reminder, the Pimax 8K has two 1440p displays and is based on upscaling technology to allow a definition of 4K per display. The Pimax 5K is delighted with two 1440p displays without upscaling. The company is also preparing a limited 8K+ model that natively offers a 4K definition per screen.
