Panasonic presents the first virtual reality glasses that support HDR at CES 2020

A lot of companies rely on virtual reality. There are not only Oculus, PlayStation VR and HTC, there are other companies with betting in this sector, a sector that is slow, much slower than we thought, but with a secure future.

Now it’s Panasonic that is presenting its proposal at CES 2020, glasses that look more like aviators than sky professionals

The lenses offer technical improvements over other solutions on the market. They feature OLED micro panels developed jointly by Panasonic and Kopin with extremely high resolution. They support HDR, and they demonstrated this with a light that bounces realistically in the video we saw at CES.

As far as sound is concerned, they use Technics drivers in the headphones, which provide a rich, dynamic sound. The company says it has also used Lumix camera designs and signal processing technologies similar to those found in its TVs and Blu-ray players.

So far only one prototype has been seen with micro OLED panels that are smaller than they could have been, which limits visibility. The glasses are heavy and the cables connected to the computer are uncomfortable, but it is not the final product yet, so we will certainly see something more surprising on the market than what we saw at CES.

However, it will not be for the end user, but for commercial applications that will probably emerge along with the development of 5G networks, such as virtual travel and virtual reality sports. We will see a lot of technology at the Olympic Games in Tokyo, and Panasonic glasses will be there.

However, we have to remember that the success of virtual reality must be based on three pillars: good price, good quality and a lot of content, and it seems that only the second pillar is the one that keeps on progressing and forgets the other two.
