Nvidia will add 6GB DXR support for GTX 1060 and above

So far DXR has only been officially supported in the GeForce RTX 2000 graphics card series, however this will change in April: All Pascal GPUs superior to the GTX 1060, Titan V and GTX 16 series are officially supported by DXR.

DXR is the abbreviation for DirectX Ray Tracing. If you don’t know the API, we’ll tell you that it’s used by games like Metro Exodus or Battlefield V for real-time raytracing. Since April we may run the API in the previously mentioned graphics, although not everything is rosy:

The GeForce GTX 1080 Ti, the most powerful GPU in the Pascal line, only achieves 18 FPS in 1440p Metro Exodus. There are no numbers in 1080p, despite the fact that it’s probably about 30 FPS, which is still super low. The RTX 2080 without DLSS achieves almost 50 FPS without DLSS and outperforms 80 FPS with DLSS, which proves a great superiority in a game that is well optimized for the use of dedicated hardware.

In Battlefield V, the prospects are somewhat better, but the performance is still poor. About 45 FPS in 1440p compared to almost 80 FPS in the RTX 2080 show the superiority of the new line.

It will be interesting to see the performance of graphics like the GTX 1060, because if a 1080Ti costs that much, the GTX 1060 may not even be playable.
