Nvidia will stop using its XX80 Ti brand and develop a new GPU flagship called RTX 3090. This information comes from wjm47196, a filter in the Chiphell forums. There is a lot of information about Nvidia’s flagship of the next generation, we have more details and a possible price.
Nvidia RTX 3090 targets a price of 1300 USD and 24 GB VRAM
According to this new information, this new graphics card will be released at a price of $1399, and the Founders Edition models will be released with a $100 bonus for $1499. This is in contrast to earlier information that it would cost about $2,000.
Nvidia’s new flagship will be released with 24GB of GDDR6X memory, a new type of memory that offers more raw bandwidth than current GDDR6 modules. Micron revealed last week that the GDDR6X memory will offer memory speeds between 19Gbps and 21Gbps, giving Nvidia up to 50% more bandwidth compared to the 14Gbps GDDR6 memory used in its RTX 2080 Ti graphics card.
It’s worth mentioning that in Micron’s GDDR6X documentation the RTX 3090 graphics card from Nvidia is mentioned and 12 GB are listed as image buffer. This information conflict means that both Micron and wjm47196 are wrong regarding the memory specifications of the RTX 3090. Micron’s listing suggests that Nvidia will be using a 384-bit memory bus on its RTX 3090 graphics card, allowing both 12 and 24 GB GPU models with 12 GDDR6X 1 or 2 GB modules.
If Nvidia wants to launch its RTX 3090 graphics card with 24 GB VRAM on the market, it must justify such a massive allocation of VRAM to the players. Both the Xbox Series X and the PlayStation 5 will offer their users 16 GB of combined system memory, which is an excessive 24 GB, even for next-generation games. We will keep you informed.
