Microsoft Edge will soon be the second most used Internet browser on PCs worldwide. In the PC browser market, Google’s Chrome has always been the dominant browser, but Apple’s Safari, in second place, is facing the crisis of being overtaken. According to a recent report by StatCounter, Microsoft Edge is about to overtake Safari in market share.
According to StatCounter’s data, Microsoft can smile. Its decision to revamp Windows 10’s native browser by adopting the Chromium engine has been successful. Since this major intervention and the move away from the EdgeHTML engine, Microsoft Edge has been steadily gaining ground. Its popularity is on the rise. All this work is paying off so much that Safari (Apple’s browser) will soon be overtaken. Currently, Apple’s browser is in second place, while Mozilla’s Firefox is in fourth place, followed by Opera.
Google Chrome is number 1
Google Chrome remains untouchable. Its popularity rating stands at 65.38 percent. In other words, it is now on more than 6 out of 10 PCs. Safari is at 9.84% and Edge is at 9.54%. If its growth continues, it will overtake Safari in the next few months.
Microsoft Edge is the default browser on Windows 10 and Windows 11, while Internet Explorer is finally being phased out. On this topic, Microsoft stated.
“As more and more websites stop supporting Internet Explorer, Microsoft Edge will provide a faster, safer, and more modern browsing experience that can still open legacy websites dependent on Internet Explorer if needed. Once the Internet Explorer desktop application is removed on June 15, 2022, it will no longer be supported. In addition, the IE11 desktop app will be disabled via a future Windows 10 cumulative update and redirected to Microsoft Edge when a user attempts to access it.”
It should be noted that Microsoft Edge is also available in other environments. We can mention Linux and macOS here.
