Jurassic World Alive AR is an augmented reality game for a smartphone recently announced by Universal. In the lineage of Pokémon Go, the title will offer players to capture virtual dinosaurs in the real world. And then participate in dinosaur fights.
Jurassic World Alive AR: a game in augmented reality
In 2016, Niantic Labs took the world by storm with its mobile application Pokémon Go. This game for smartphone Android and iOS has single-handedly democratized augmented reality. Throughout the summer, smartphone users of all ages roamed the streets of their cities to capture Pokémon and conquer local arenas.
The phenomenon quickly faded, but Pokemon Go remains to this day one of the most profitable mobile games ever created. It is not surprising then that many entertainment giants are looking to bounce back on this success without risk. And now they come by transposing the concept of Pokémon Go to other flagship franchises of popular culture.
Thus, a few days ago, at the announcement of Google Arcore 1.0, Sony announced the upcoming release of Ghostbusters World. Similarly, the creator of Pokémon Go Niantic Labs is preparing its big comeback with Harry Potter Wizards Unite. Today, it’s Universal’s turn to take the field with the announcement of Jurassic World Alive.
Jurassic World Alive AR: capture dinosaurs in virtual reality
Developed in partnership with Ludia Inc, which already owe the official mobile game Jurassic World. So, this new title in augmented reality will take again the concept of Pokémon Go into the universe of the film Jurassic World realized by Colin Trevorrow in 2015.
In this AR game, the user will be able to browse the real world in search of virtual dinosaurs. Specific dinosaurs can be found in different parts of the world. However, a significant difference with Pokémon Go is that the player will not need to move physically.
As in the movie, the goal of the game is to collect DNA from different dinosaurs and then create hybrid creatures. And to do this, it will not be necessary to walk the streets in person since it will be possible to deploy drones. This system may be relevant since many Pokémon GO players preferred to use the GPS Spoofing technique to deceive the game’s geographic detection system and play from home.
The Pokémon Go player-versus-player combat system will also be resumed. In this case, it will be to face the dinosaurs of other players by sending his creatures to the fight. It is unclear if these fights will take place in specific locations (such as arenas in Pokémon Go) or when two players will cross each other or even via a remote matchmaking system.
Jurassic World Alive AR: release in the spring of 2018
We will soon know everything about this game in augmented reality since its release has scheduled for spring 2018. Jurassic World Alive will be available on iOS and Android smartphones. At launch, it will be possible to collect a hundred different dinosaurs. Subsequently, new creatures will be added during the updates, especially during the cinema release of the Jurassic World suites.
