The new eighth generation of Intel notebook processors is codenamed Whiskey Lake. These new CPUs will offer numerous improvements over the previous generation with a total of 6 new chips between the U and Y series.
The IFA Berlin is a great opportunity for Intel to announce new core processors. And once again this year, ultra-portable PC models are in the spotlight.
Intel launches six new ultra-portable PC processors. Codename: Whiskey Lake-U and, yes, they are still chips of the eighth generation. They continue to be based on the Kaby Lake-R model, which was presented at the same time last year at the IFA 2017 in Berlin. The main technical features (4 cores, DDR4 support, etc.) are still available, but the newcomers still benefit from some small optimizations, especially in terms of connectivity and consumption, depending on the manufacturer.
Extremely low and efficient power consumption
The three new processors, the Core Y-Series, finally replace the current models of the seventh generation that were launched in the summer of 2016. These extremely energy-saving chips (5 watts adjustable) equip the current Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 Cabriolet, for example. We also notice that the nomenclature of the Y-chips changes between the seventh and eighth generation in order to harmonize with the current names.
Intel Launches Six Whiskey Lake Processors for Laptops
In all, the company has launched 6 CPUs with Gigabit WiFi, better clock speeds and more. The Whiskey Lake Processors announced and introduced today are as follows;
- Y Series: M3-8100Y, i5-8200Y, i7-8500Y,
- U Series: i3-8145U, i5-8265U, i7-8565U.
And the most powerful processor in the Y series is the i7-8500Y with a basic frequency of 1.5 GHz that can automatically reach 4.2 GHz. This processor comes with 2 cores and 4 wires with a 5W TDP.
The U Series most powerful chip is the i7-8565U with a fundamental frequency of 1.8 GHz and a capacity of 4.6 GHz. The processor has 4 cores with HyperThreading and supports up to 8 threads. In this case, the TDP is 15 W.
As we can see, HyperThreading is available in all cases.
Whiskey Lake, Optimized for connectivity
Under the title ‘Optimized for Connectivity’, Intel promotes Whiskey Lake processors of the eighth generation and focuses on reliability.
These processors enable a laptop to be twice as fast as a 5-year-old laptop, faster connection speeds, longer battery life and better performance in voice command services, Intel says.
Soon the laptops with these chips will be in action, especially the high-end models.
