The latest Japanese DIY market report from BCNR shows that Intel CPUs have regained the lead over AMD Ryzen CPUs, the x86 market leader, which has performed quite well these last three years. The BCN ranking figures are generated based on actual sales data for PCs and components collected and aggregated from major retailers and online DIY stores.
Intel achieves 74% PC market share in Japan
The latest Japanese PC market report from BCNR shows that Intel dominates this space, big time.
In 2019, AMD had caught up with Intel’s market share in the area, but about three years later, Intel has regained the lead.
The BCN ranking figures are based on sales databases collected and aggregated from actual PC and component sales data from major retailers and online specialists. This market accounts for 40% of the Japanese PC market.
Intel climbed to 74% market share in January, absolutely dominating the region.
Sales of Intel’s Core i5 CPUs have been reaching the same heights as AMD’s Ryzen 5 CPUs since early 2020, thanks to the momentum of the Alder series and the good work of the 10th and 11th generations.
Sales of Core i5 processors account for 35.7% of total sales, while sales of Core i7 processors account for 25%. Sales of the Ryzen 5 now stand at 12.6%, placing it third in the rankings, followed by the Core i3 at 10.4% and the Core i9 at 7.5%.
One of the main reasons for AMD’s declining market share is the lack of stock. It’s normal to find many options for Intel Core processors, but the Ryzen series is harder to come by, and often at much higher prices. This is true not only in Japan but also in the West.
Hopefully, AMD will be able to solve the lack of stock problem this year. They have said that this problem will be fixed in the second half of this year at all levels, not only in the CPU market but also in the graphics card market.
