A subsidiary of Huawei, Honor announced plans to launch a Smart TV under the codename of Honor Vision in early August. The Honor Vision will be a kind of hub for intelligent devices that exchange information, and according to the latest rumors, it would be the first with HongMeng, Huawei’s operating system.
A Huawei employee reported in Yicai Global’s media that Honor Vision will work under HongMeng. The information should be treated with caution as Huawei expects to launch the software in October as the earliest date.
HongMeng starts the first show in Honor Vision
Honor Vision will not be the only TV to bring Huawei to market, as the Chinese company also wants to sell high-end models with 4K resolution and 5G connectivity, although these will be sold under the main brand and not through its subsidiary Honor. It is likely that Huawei will implement its own operating system if Android TV is not available.
“The Chinese newspaper SCMP announced a few weeks ago that HongMeng is very far away from Android and is based on a lightweight microkernel that can react quickly to customizations and processes. Huawei has the idea to implement the new operating system in smartphones, networked cars, smart clocks and more.”
Ark OS, the operating system known in the rest of the world has been under development for more than seven years and its introduction has been driven by the veto of the United States. A few days ago, Huawei also registered the Harmony OS brand with the European Union’s Intellectual Property Office, opening the door to rumors of another possible name for HongMeng.
Richard Yu, CEO of Huawei, said a long time ago that HongMeng will be introduced between autumn 2019 and spring 2020.
