After months of rumors and leaks, Google today officially announced the anticipated Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL, which will become the new Android reference devices.
The Pixel 3 / 3 XL comes with Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor, 4 GB RAM and various memory options: 64 and 128 GB.
The new devices will be available in a variety of colors, including white, black and a new, almost pink option.
The back of both smartphones is made of polycarbonate, allowing pixels to offer wireless charging for the first time.
Unlike most manufacturers who have opted for two or even three rear-view cameras, Google remains true to the idea of a single rear-view camera, but that doesn’t mean that it will lag behind the competition.
The front camera is even more interesting since it actually consists of two lenses, one of which has a wide-angle lens that allows you to shoot “Super Selfies”. It’s possible to zoom in with the Selfie camera, and of course, it has a portrait mode. It’s possible to zoom in with the Selfie camera, and of course, it has a portrait mode.
Google has added two new photo modes to its range, Top Shot, and Photobooth, which select the best photos and, thanks to the use of AI. Top Shot makes an eruption of photos before and after you press the shutter button and selects the best one, while Photobooth analyzes the photos you take by yourself and others and selects the ones it thinks are most photogenic.
The only real difference between Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL is the size: while Pixel 3 has a 5.5-inch screen, Pixel 3 XL has a 6.3-inch screen that is cut out with a fairly pronounced notch. This also applies to the battery, which has more capacity in Pixel 3 XL.
Another feature introduced in the main camera is a new zoom option called Super Res Zoom, which can use the AI to add details when zooming onto an object. There’s also an object tracking feature that prevents you from having to tap the screen to keep a moving object in focus.
These new Google devices can be purchased in advance from today on the official website.
Google’s bet on hardware doesn’t seem to differ much from what we’ve seen on other high-end terminals in recent months. You could even say it’s even more modest on some of these specifications.
These devices match in almost all their specifications, for example, we have a Snapdragon 845 that controls them, the star processor of the season that is also in these devices. This processor has 4/6 GB RAM and 64 or 128 GB capacity.
One of the most important innovations is the wireless charging station (up to 10 W). Google has introduced its own accessory in this area, the Pixel Stand, and this is one of the most striking news in terms of surprises on a datasheet that is remarkable but not particularly revolutionary.
Along with these specifications, we have WiFi connectivity 802.11ac, Bluetooth 5.0+LE, NFC, and support for Titan M security modules, which allows us to use the phone more securely to authenticate us in various services.
It has a USB-C port (USB 3.1 Gen 1), but the box includes an 18W adapter, the USB-C to USB-C cable and even a USB-C headset, as well as a headphone adapter with a 3.5mm port. Good detail from Google.
Design: fewer frames, Google is also infected with Notch
Google does not seem particularly interested in making a remarkable leap in the design of these terminals, which have not changed radically, although they have used this reduction in frames, like the rest of the market, to win in this screen-to-front ratio.
This reduction in frames is particularly noticeable in a Google Pixel 3 XL that takes over the notch of the Apple iPhone, while Google Pixel 3 does not have this design element. In this back design they use, the same color (black, white and a third ironically called “Not Pink”) with two light tones that distinguish the upper part where the camera is located from the lower part.
