Even the GeForce RTX 3090 can’t run Watch Dogs Legion at 60 FPS in 4K / Ultra

Youtuber RajmanGaming presented a video with the benchmark tool, which is integrated into Watch Dogs Legion. The surprise came after it was shown that despite the use of an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 ($1500 USD GPU), the open-world game cannot run at 60 FPS in 4K/Ultra configurations; without the effects of ray tracing.

As we can see, the FPS drops below 55 several times during the built-in benchmark test, and even in the event of catastrophic bursts, the frames drop to a hard 47 FPS.

Remember that this is done without DLSS and without the effects of ray tracing. The good news is that the game comes with several graphic settings that can be modified, as we have seen in this note. However, it’s really disappointing that a recently released $1,500 GPU is not capable of running a game at 4K 60 FPS.

RajmanGaming also tested the performance of Watch Dogs Legion on the RTX 3090 with DLSS and ray tracing enabled. With DLSS on “Quality” and Ray Tracing on “Ultra”, the 3090 averages between 54 and 44 FPS. However, we can get a little more performance out of it by leaving DLSS on “Performance”, where the NVIDIA flagship board offers frames between 54 and 70 FPS.

As Ubisoft noted, PC gamers need at least an RTX 2060 to play at 1080p/high with Ray Tracing Medium and DLSS. For 1440p / Very High and Ray Tracing / DLSS High configurations, Ubisoft recommends using an RTX 3070 or RTX 2080Ti. Finally, for 4K / Ultra with Ray Tracing / DLSS Ultra, Ubisoft suggests an RTX 3080.
