DF claimed that Xbox Series X would be much more powerful than PS5

Apparently, Microsoft’s Xbox Series X enjoys the technological lead over PlayStation 5, according to new leaks that seem to have been verified by Digital Foundry, which is much more relevant.

Xbox Series X would be more powerful and more expensive than PlayStation 5

Both the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X will probably arrive next year, but we don’t know much about the kind of performance expected from both systems officially. While we do know that both systems will have a next-generation AMD Zen 2 CPU and solid-state drives, the main specifications have not been announced. At least not officially.

According to the filtered specifications, the PS5 Oberon chip will offer up to 36 2.0 GHz Navi computing units, which is equivalent to a 9.2 Teraflop GPU. The processor will also use GDDR6 memory, with a bandwidth of 448 GB/s to 512 GB/s. As mentioned above, the GPU will have three modes that allow hardware emulation of the PS4 and PS4 Pro.

The information that has leaked out about the Xbox X series GPU is much less comprehensive, but it seems that the chip has 3584 shaders, which would require a whopping 56 Navi computing units. Based on this number, DF estimates that Microsoft could target 12 teraflops with its Arden chip. It was also confirmed that the Arden chip will have a memory bandwidth of 560GB/s.

Therefore, a lot is still missing, but if these leaks are true, it looks like Sony is trying to find a balance between performance and affordability, while Microsoft is focusing on hardware flexing above all other concerns. DF speculates that Sony could be looking at the PlayStation 5 for $399, while the Xbox Series X would have a higher price, but we can’t calculate how much. $500 or $600 maybe?

There’s a chance that Microsoft will release a less powerful and cheaper model with a Lockhart code name, although we don’t know much about its specifications yet. We will keep you informed.
