China is ready to create its own moon, eight times brighter than the Earth’s satellite, which will light its cities by 2020. Wu Chunfeng, president of Chengdu Aerospace Science and Technology Institute, said that the artificial moon will complement the real moon at night to illuminate the streets of Chinese cities.
The “new” moon will reflect the sun’s rays and will be eight times brighter than the real moon, illuminating an area of 10 to 80 kilometers in diameter. At an altitude of about 500 kilometers, the arbitrator will compete against 380,000 kilometers of the natural satellite. According to speculation, this could lead to annual savings of 173 million US dollars due to lower lighting costs.
