Athlon 200GE and Ryzen PRO, AMD will present Pentium rivals

We weren’t supposed to say anything until September 6th, however, we have decided in advance to let you know that AMD will soon be launching its new Ryzen PRO and Athlon PRO (Athlon 200GE) models on that day. Unlike normal Ryzen, they have greater security features and more support from AMD that is ideal for businesses and workstations.

The models of the Ryzen Pro line are the PRO 2700X, PRO 270000 and PRO 2600. And the first of them will have 8 cores and 16 threads, with 3.6 GHz base and 4.1 GHz boost and 95 W TDP. Then there is the 2700 with 8 cores and 16 threads and also a boost to 4.1GHz and even 3.2GHz to reach its 65W TDP. Finally, there is the PRO 2600 with 6 cores and 12 threads, 3.4GHz base, 3.9GHz boost, and with 65W TDP.

According to AMD internal tests, the PRO 2700X will perform 24% better in the multi-thread range than an i7-8700, which offers the same value for money. On the PRO 2600 side, it will yield 28% more than the Core i5-8600.

The Athlon PRO 200GE will also be launched, with 2 cores and 4 threads, 3.2 GHz boost, Vega-3 graphics and a TDP of only 35 W.

On one side the Ryzen PRO 2700X, PRO 2700 and PRO 2600X will be delivered and on the other side the Athlon PRO 200GE. The Athlon PRO 200GE has two cores and four threads suggesting relatively simple office-based systems that do not require large-scale solutions. This processor is accompanied by integrated Vega-3 graphics enabling relatively simple video output. It will have no fixed frequency boost mode and there will be no clear intention to compete with the Intel Pentium, that is much more popular for office use.

It appears that the Athlon 200GE (without PRO for games) will be launched on 6 September 2018 and will be launched by 18 September 2018. According to the Slides, these processors will be offered at $55 with a frequency of 3.2 GHz. There will be 1 MB L2 cache, 4 MB L3 cache and 35W TDP at a price of $55. This special processor is based on the 14nm and competes with the Pentium G4560, an Intel processor that was sold without problems because of its brutal performance.

We don’t know the performance of the Athlon 200GE or the PRO models designed for the office computer sector and advanced solutions with added security. And the price of $55 is a good value if it performs nicely, and can be a good solution for entry-level games combined with simple dedicated graphics.
