Asus ROG introduced ROG Thor 1200W Platinum and ROG Thor 850W Platinum power supplies. The ROG Thor series is designed for enthusiasts who need a high power with advanced cooling, high-quality components, and adjustable lighting.
In a power source, component heat sinks are essential to optimize thermal efficiency. The ROG Thor 1200W Platinum offers custom ROG heat sinks that take up to twice the space of conventional designs, and the ROG Thor 850W also offers something similar. The use of larger heat sinks and other high-quality components means lower temperatures in service, longer lifetime of the main components and quiet operation without extra cooler activation.
The interior of the power supply is based on the Seasonic Prime. ROG Thor has a 135 mm cooler design, which can also be found on some high-quality Asus video boards. The design offers higher static pressure to cool components efficiently at lower speeds than a conventional cooler and it features IP5X certification for dust protection to ensure higher usage. The power source includes a 0dB switch that lets the cooler stop completely at low temperatures.
Asus has recently started using displays on ROG motherboards, CPU coolers and now also on power sources. The ROG Thor is the first power supply source to feature an OLED display that shows the power usage of the supply in real time, allowing the user to easily monitor how much power is being consumed by the system without the need for additional software.
The fountain box includes power cords to accompany the aesthetics of the fountain. ROG Thor sources will be available worldwide by the end of September. The 1200W model would cost about 250 dollars/euro, while the 800W model price is not yet known.
