We’re still talking about what’s new at the ARM, the company that owns the CPU architecture used by almost every smartphone on the market, plus many other devices, so we’re talking about something really important. This time we are talking about the new Cortex A76 core.
ARM also announces new Cortex A76 core
Along with the new Mali-G76 GPU, the new ARM Cortex A76 kernel has been announced, which has been developed using ARM’s DynamIQ technology. This new core promises to improve the performance of the previous Cortex A75 by up to 35% while improving energy efficiency by up to 40%. The benefits of the ARM Cortex A76 architecture-based processors will include four times more capabilities for tasks related to artificial intelligence and deep learning.
This Cortex A76 core will also allow us to enjoy a new generation of notebooks with Qualcomm’s Windows 10 operating system and Snapdragon processors, as the American processor designer is one of the leaders in the ARM CPU architecture, the undisputed leader in high-end smartphones and the first to bring its processors to Windows 10.
These enhancements will be coupled with the new Mali-V76 VPU to enable extensive multimedia capabilities, including the ability to play 8K resolution video, four 4K video streams and 16 1080p and 60 FPS video streams. As if that’s not enough, it will also be able to encode 8K video at 30 FPS.
The ARM architecture is evolving at a rapid pace in recent years, making the gap with x86-based designs narrower than ever, but still very large in gross performance.
