Apple Introduces New iOS Device Diagnostic Tool Integrated into the Latest iPad Pro Series

Apple is launching a new internal USB-C diagnostic tool to replace its existing serial reader, which can be used both to obtain a device’s serial number directly from the motherboard and to test the device’s internal power supply.

In the case of the previous flash only version, images of the new USB-C diagnostic tool (UDT) have appeared, and internally it appears to be called “ChimpSWD”. The new tool was designed to be compatible with Apple’s iPad Pro product line, which has been available since 2018 based on the USB-C interface.

From the above information, the technician should use the appropriate cable to connect the UDT to the hardware diagnostic interface (HDI) Mac and the other end to the target device in order to use the new tool properly and obtain diagnostic information.
