AMD Threadripper 7000 ‘Storm Peak’ to have up to 64 Zen 4 cores

The next Ryzen 7000 processor series for the PC workstation segment is said to be codenamed Storm Peak and offer up to 64 Zen 4 cores. A hint about the series recently appeared in the Einstein @Home database.

The Ryzen Threadripper 7000 series processors have made their first appearance. They feature the great innovation of Zen 4 cores, which will bring a lot of performance compared to the current series.

In the Einstein @Home database, a CPU with the OPN code “100-0000454-20_Y” was discovered, which was recognized as ‘Family 25 Model 24 Stepping 1’. This chip is manufactured in a 5nm process node and offers 64 cores and 128 threads. At this point, it should be noted that we don’t know if this is the top-of-the-line Threadripper model or one of its intermediate variants. Remember that the EPYC Genoa offers up to 96 cores. So there could be a Threadripper 7000 that reaches that number. We also don’t know if Threadripper will launch in the SP5/TR5 socket used by Genoa and Bergamo, or in the SP6 socket intended for the EPYC Siena CPUs.

AMD will market its next-generation Ryzen Threadripper 7000 “Storm Peak” CPUs under the “PRO” name. The launch is planned for the next year 2023, with high hopes for workstations, not only from AMD but also from Intel with its new Xeon processors.

AMD’s next releases for the PC market will be the following:

  • Ryzen 7000 ‘Raphael’ (Zen 4) – 2022.
  • Ryzen 7000X ‘Raphael-X’ (Zen 4 with V-Cache) – 2023
  • Ryzen Threadripper 7000 (Zen 4) – 2023
  • Ryzen 8000 ‘Granite Ridge’ (Zen 5) – 2024

We also don’t know if Threadripper will eventually use 3D V-cache technology. There are many questions that need to be answered in the coming months.
