AMD RDNA 2 will arrive this year: Big “Navi”: 7nm +, Ray Tracing and VRS

Just a few days ago you were informed that Big Navi will arrive during 2020, and today we can confirm that this year we will have a new generation of graphics cards from AMD. The new AMD RDNA2 GPUs will support ray tracing and innovative AMD VRS technology.

AMD with RDNA2 should come close to Nvidia’s RTX series

AMD’s CEO, Dr. Lisa Su, confirmed that her company will bring the second generation of RDNA to market this year. This new generation “RDNA2” would have the new manufacturing process at 7nm + (EUV) of TSMC, we will have a speed increase of the graphics chip, more transistors in the manufacturing process and thus theoretically higher performance.

Although the appearance of Ray Tracing in AMD graphics seems to us to be a great success, the inclusion of VRS (Variable Speed Shading) technology seems even more interesting. In principle, this technology will allow the graphics card to concentrate on the most complex parts, i.e. it will send more power to where our screen has more action. What do we get out of it? Saving resources and reducing the high power consumption of AMD graphics cards – we’ll see it in practice!

When will this new generation of AMD graphics cards be introduced? According to Lisa Su, they will arrive later this March for the AMD Investors Day 2020 conference. What do you think about AMD graphics cards? Do you think Big Navi will compete with the high-end of Nvidia?
