A compilation of leaks from 3DCenter claims that upcoming graphics cards based on AMD Navi 31 and Nvidia AD102 could have a power consumption of over 400W.
AMD Navi 31 and Nvidia AD102, the next generation of GPUs could consume up to 400W
The Nvidia AD102 GPU will power upcoming GeForce graphics cards, while the Navi 31 will do the same for AMD. Both graphics cards could be quite power-hungry according to rumors. We are talking about the power consumption of between 400 and 500 W. That would be significantly more than the RTX 3090’s power consumption, which is 350W TDP.
Not only does that mean high power consumption, but they also get pretty hot, so manufacturers will need very robust cooling solutions to keep temperatures in check.
According to Beyond3D forum member Bondrewd, Navi 31 could be a dual-chip GPU with an area of 600-650 square feet. This measurement only takes into account the compute units of the RDNA 3, not the MCD and other parts that this GPU is supposed to use.
The Navi 31, on the other hand, is expected to launch in the third quarter of 2022. Of course, none of this is confirmed and the information should be taken with a grain of salt, but multiple sources are reporting the same thing. The next generation will require more power due to the fact that both use MCM-like designs that combine multiple GPU cores on a single chip. We will keep you updated on any further developments.
