As the latest sales information from BCN Retail shows, AMD is now the company that sells more processors in Japan and outperforms Intel.
All these figures reflect only sales up to June 24, so the difference could be even greater, possibly at the start of the third generation of Ryzen processors.
AMD on road to success
In October 2018, Intel in Japan had 72.1% of the CPU market. Now it has dropped to just 49.5%, while AMD has the majority with 50.5%.
With the Ryzen processors, AMD recovered strongly. To reach Intel seemed impossible before Lisa Su took over the management of the company.
Now there is more competition between the companies, especially now that Intel is struggling to advance the technology, stuck at 14nm and delayed its 10nm products. Meanwhile, third-generation Ryzen is already using 7nm, and it didn’t help Intel that its reputation was compromised by security issues like Spectre and Meltdown.
In addition, with the introduction of the new Ryzen, AMD will have exclusivity PCIe 4.0 standard, so it’s safe to say that AMD will continue to outperform Intel’s sales performance. In some markets, such as Germany, AMD has already outperformed Intel for some time.
