AMD has officially announced the launch of its new Athlon 220GE and Athlon 240GE processors, which will join the Athlon 200GE to provide the entry level for Zen-based processors.
Both the Athlon 220GE and the Athlon 240GE are designed for use with the current AMD AM4 platform. The processors are also based on the highly energy-efficient Zen microarchitecture and also feature integrated Radeon Vega graphics: What will change with the Athlon 200GE? That is the frequency and price. The two Zen x86 cores with SMT remain unchanged and offer a total of four threads, as well as the Vega graphics processor with three processing units, which is reflected in 192 stream processors and the 35 Watt TDP.
- AMD Athlon 200GE – 3.2GHz, TDP: 35W
- AMD Athlon 220GE – 3.4GHz, TDP: 35W
- AMD Athlon 240GE – 3.5GHz, TDP: 35W
AMD positions the Athlon family over Intel’s Pentium solutions and that can deliver more satisfactory performance in 720p gaming thanks to the integrated GPU. As with CPU usage, the 200GE Athlon offers a slightly higher performance as compared to the Intel processors, so the increased frequency is certainly beneficial for the new AMD chips. We still don’t know when these CPUs will be on the market, but they are likely to arrive in January 2019. In the meantime, you can find the Athlon 200GE at Amazon for 60 euros or less.
These new processors AMD Athlon 220GE and Athlon 240GE can be of great interest to assemble a team with a very tight price but will offer excellent performance for all kinds of daily tasks.
